Strangers Again

I get a lot of hate whenever I say this, but I’ll say it anyways. More than half of you are too young to be taking relationships so seriously. I know, you can call me old fashioned or whatever, I don’t care. We’re constantly fed ideas that they bring us a happiness like no other. We fantasize over romance all the time; we see it in movies, tv shows, and novels. Really think about it though. Seriously, what options do you have? You either get married at some point or break up.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have anything against dating in general. It just bothers me whenever I see people’s lives (including my closest friends) getting ruined by unhealthy relationships. I’ve talked about this many times before. Once two people start getting way too close, they become emotionally attached and clingy. Soon family and friends are pushed aside and nothing else matters besides that “special” person. You begin to compromise with your dreams and goals, all because you care about your significant other so much that you have to adjust your ideas of your future together. Everything changes.

Once you start to notice the relationship going on a downward spiral you deny it immediately and try even harder to force things to work, eventually making it difficult for the both of you. In your mind you throw away the idea of “giving up” because you’ve given in to so much and don’t have much else to go to if all was to fall apart. There’s very little hope left. Then we finally realize that it’s a trap we’ve set up for ourselves, leaving us the choice of either hurting ourselves by continuing to try or letting go, because breaking up is inevitable. Sometimes we just need to decide what is best in the long run, even though neither option looks appealing.

But please, never forget that you are better than this. You don’t need another person to make you feel complete. Life is much bigger than that, don’t be deceived. Do not ever get yourself into a relationship because you’re lonely, only get into one when you’re ready. Trust me. I’ve witnessed far too many people go through unnecessary pain because of it. Don’t get discouraged though, you live and you learn. That’s a part of life. Remember to think twice before even considering anything serious with anybody.

It’s sad how you grow so close to someone only to find that in the end you are strangers, again.
